In this clip, Debra Oswald and Richard Glover give us this fantastic lowdown on their
books - both set in the 1970s - "The Whole Bright Year" and "The Land Before Avocado".
Back from town. Padma filled up the car with petrol while I filled up with books and DVDs at Vinnies. Found an almost brandnew copy of "The Land before Avocado" which is a nostalgic journey to an almost unrecognisable Australia, the Australia of the late 60s and early 70s.

The book describes the Australia I fell in love with when I came out in 1965 - I really must stop using this turn of phrase before someone starts questioning my sexual orientation 😀 - and having wanted to read this book so much, I'd already bought it on ebay a month ago for some $25.
And there it was again, on offer for just a couple of dollars at Vinnies! I know of someone else who would also love to read it, and so I grapped it, as well as the DVD "Jindabyne" filmed in the Snowy Mountains ...
... and another rare find, "Deutschland83", a set of three DVDs with a running time of 370 minutes, in German (with English subtitles), about a 24-year-old native of East Germany who, in 1983, is sent to West Germany as an undercover spy for the HVA, the foreign intelligence service of East Germany's infamous Ministry of State Security (Stasi).

It's a blustery day outside and, not wanting to be knocked out by a falling branch, it's my perfect excuse to start watching "Jindabyne".
