After the obligatory first couple of days in the immigration camp at Bonegilla and a month (or two?) in Melbourne, I spent the rest of my compulsory two years in Australia as bank officer with the ANZ Bank in Canberra.
When I arrived there in 1965, the lake had already been filled but in every other way it was still as shown in this movie clip shot in 1958.
As they say in the commercials, "But wait! There's more!"; so here are clips from the 60s of Mount Gambier, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Cairns, Launceston, Wagga Wagga, Hobart, and Geelong.
