At the Deakin Inn on a Saturday night; yours truly on the far right
Another flashback: The band at the then recently opened Deakin Inn in Cenberra became a bit of a favourite for the 'inmates' of Barton House back in 1966.
The boys rocked up, some sporting Beatles haircuts but all dressed in white shirts and black ties, looking like latter day saints, while the girls showed off their gold lame purses. The drink of choice for the boys was beer straight from the jug (cheaper that way and less running back and forth to the bar) and Barossa Pearl and sweet sherry for the girls.
Then, when the band struck up its theme song, hundreds of well-lubricated voices joined in:
