All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others

It appears to me that that wall looks different. Are the Seven Commandments the same as they used to be, Benjamin? For once Benjamin consented to break his rule, and he read out to her what was written on the wall. There was nothing there now except a single commandment. It ran:

After that it did not seem strange when next day the pigs who were supervising the work of the farm all carried whips in their trotters. It did not seem strange to learn that the pigs had bought themselves a wireless set, were arranging to instal a telephone, and taken out subscriptions to John Bull, Tit-Bits, and the Daily Mirror. It did not seem strange when Napoleon was seen strolling in the farmhouse garden with a pipe in his mouth ... " (Page 114 from "Animal Farm")

In 1954, the CIA created the above cartoon movie "Animal Farm" to use as propaganda against the Soviet Union's communism, which was not quite what George Orwell had had in mind when he had written the book between late 1943 and mid-1944. He had meant to show what happens when people come to power because power always corrupts.

His book ends with the paragraph, "Twelve voice were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."

The glorious hypocrisy of it all!

I look from Labor to Liberal politicians, from Liberal to Labor politicians, and from Labor to Liberal politicians again; but already it is impossible to say which is which, because when it comes to helping themselves to taxpayer-funded entitlements they are totally alike, as again evidenced by the most recent travel entitlements scandal.

Why should they even fly Business Class? They are working for us — if they ever do; nodding your head (or off) in Parliament is not "working" — and few of us ever fly Business Class, even if we could afford it.

And why should they have those outrageously generous Family Reunion travel allowances (which are all on Business Class!!!) ? Being away from their families is part of their job, for which they already get paid a very fat salary indeed, not to mention a host of other abused allowances, plus what must surely be the country's most generous superannuation scheme, so generous that a separate fund is needed to eventually pay their super to which they - unlike the rest of us - contribute NOTHING.
