We were the first ones in at the Moruya Bowling Club's restaurant - which is when I photographed their new wall decoration, an aerial view of Moruya - and the last ones to be served, and when it finally came, the desert arrived half an hour before the roast pork.
Not that any of us complained, as Kiap David had plenty to talk about, especially since the recently ordered DVD "Kiap" had just arrived in the morning's mail. New Guinea left a huge impact on all who lived there!
Also in the mail was a copy of Julian Barmes' "Levels of Life" which I had ordered through ebay a week ago, and at Vinnies in Moruya I picked up a beautiful Folio Society-copy of "The Devil's Dictionary", a gleefully misanthropic glossary started by the American Ambrose Bierce in 1880.
It's after five now. The sun has gone down and the fireplace is blazing. It's time to settle down to a peaceful weekend. I'd also bought two DVDs, "28 Days Later" and "Straw Dogs", but I don't want to have night-mares tonight, so I settle for the BBC documentary "The Story Of Maths".
