Just as well that in Padma's absence I can live on cheese-and-onion sandwiches because, under the circumstances, not much cooking gets done!
Chicken wings for dinner tonight! And with Padma still away, I can indulge my imagination with the (un)dressing!
I mean, here I am struggling with my kitchen renovation and they make it look like the whole kit and kaboodle could be done by Debbie in Dallas in between a couple of other assignations! ☺

Today is time out from my kitchen renovations which are moving ahead slowly (or should that be 'moving a head slowly' in a tut-tutting sort of way, wondering why I ever started it?)
I made a quick dash into Batemans Bay which was full of cars queueing at traffic lights and people queueing at check-outs. I wasted little time on essential shopping but a little more at my favourite op-shop where I found this small bundle of literary delights:
"The Several Lives of Joseph Conrad" by John Stape, "George Orwell - A Life" by Bernard Crick, "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World" by Jack Weatherford, "Germania - A Personal History of Germans Ancient and Modern" by Simon Winder (it's never too late to find out who I am ☺), "Quest for Kim - In Search of Kipling's Great Game" by Peter Hopkirk, and "The Sea - A Cultural History" by John Mack. It starts with the quote "There is nothing more enticing, disenchanting, and enslaving than the life at sea" by Joseph Conrad which brings me right back to the beginning.
Benny has sold his store! We shall all miss his innovative merchandising of placing DUREX right after Chuppa Chups and before Panadol. At least he's got the chronology right!
And he shall no doubt be pleased to never have his magnanimity tested again by customers quoting "Blue fish blowing bubbles" which, according to his website, entitled them to a free Coke.

Ich wanderte im Jahre 1965 vom (k)alten Deutschland nach Australien aus. In Erinnerung an das alte Sprichwort "Gott hüte mich vor Sturm und Wind und Deutschen die im Ausland sind" wurde ich in 1971 im Dschungel von Neu-Guinea australischer Staatsbürger. Das kostete mich nur einen Umlaut und das zweite n im Nachnamen - von -mann auf -man.
Australien gab mir eine zweite Sprache und eine zweite Chance und es war auch der Anfang und das Ende: nach fünfzig Arbeiten in fünfzehn Ländern - "Die ganze Welt mein Arbeitsfeld" - lebe ich jetzt im Ruhestand in Australien an der schönen Südküste von Neusüdwales.
Ich verbringe meine Tage mit dem Lesen von Büchern, segle mein Boot den Fluss hinunter, beschäftige mich mit Holzarbeit, oder mache Pläne für eine neue Reise.
