Years ago, I re-read "1984" and was unnerved by how frighteningly accurate George Orwell had predicted the future. A friend just mentioned Ayn Rand which made me reach for my copy of Atlas Shrugged which describes a society based on oppressive bureaucratic functionaries and a culture that embraces mediocrity and egalitarianism, with America on the verge of economic disaster. Ayn Rand predicted that this would happen in the year 2016. Well, she was wrong - it's 2013 and it's here!
The book is quite a tome so if reading is not your strong suit, watch the movie on DVD (it comes in two parts, so get both).
