the correctly placed apostrophe suggests it's not a location shot either
I was hoping for thunder as we need the rain badly but what sounded like thunder was the neighbours' synchronised rolling-in of their empty wheelie bins. That's the problem with living in the country: it's so quiet down here that couples who have previously lived in the city and haven't heard each other speak for years now understand everything their partners are saying which puts an enormous stress on their marriages.
And yet, good old domestic arguments to clear the air as well as the vocal cords are a definite no-no because your neighbours will probably keep a transcript of them. Mind you, since they already know all your nocturnal as well as diurnal habits, from what television program you watch to the regularity of your digestive system, a rapid exchange of a few well-chosen words would certainly help to rev up the rumour mills.
"Riverbend", being an acreage on the edge of suburbia, enjoys all the benefits of suburbian life without any of its downsides. Like Sergeant Schultz in 'Hogan's Heroes', we see nothing, we know nothing, and we hear nothing - well, except for the rolling in of the empty wheelie bins.
