Often, in lulls of conversation, people ask, "What movies have you seen?" or "Where have you been on your holidays?" You can no longer assume, the way you could when I was growing up, that anyone is reading anything.
And yet, books are the most powerful tool in the human arsenal, that reading all kinds of books, in whatever format you choose - electronic or printed, or audio - is the grandest entertainment, and also is how you take part in the human conversation. "The End of Your Life Book Club" explains how books can be comforting, astonishing and illuminating, changing the way we feel about and inter-act with the world around us. It is about the joy of reading, and the way that joy is multiplied when we share it with others - which is what I've just done!
