Judith Durham died last Friday, aged 79. She was "The Seekers" lead singer with the voice of an angel when I had just arrived in what was then an Australia that no one would recognise today.
It's the Australia that Richard Glover describes in his book "The Land Before Avocado", written from his teenage perspective when growing up in Canberra in the late sixties/early seventies, coinciding exactly with my first impression of Australia during my first two years in Canberra.
It's a hugely entertaining romp down memory lane, and a great intergenerational conversation starter. The author, Richard Glover, also makes a weekly appearance on ABC Radio's "Thank God It's Friday!"
