We had Hope!

Those were the days: jokes were funny, not disgusting, and the girls were dressed to make them look pretty, not vulgar. Girls, short skirts, off-colour jokes, religious Christmas songs, all politically so incorrect today. We were so lucky then!

I came to Australia at the height of the Vietnam War in 1965, and went through my second growing-up in Barton House in Canberra - see here - watching in the communal TV lounge the weekly Bob Hope Show - and also "Skippy the Bush Kangaroo", and "M*A*S*H" with "Hawkeye" Pierce, and Bob Dyer's "BP Pick A Box", but we leave those for another day.

Even though we're much older now, and have suffered our share of what Shakespeare called "the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to", we are lucky because we had Hope!

"Miniskirts are bigger than ever; even some of the fellows are wearing them. Dont laugh! If you had thought of it, you wouldn't be here!"
