What a great way to spend a lazy Sunday!

Some time after 40:00 Laurence Bergreen briefly discusses the line
that divided the world between the Spaniards and the Portuguese

Have you ever wondered why the whole of South America speaks Spanish except for Brazil where they speak Portuguese? It all goes back to the 7th of June 1494 and the Treaty of Tordesillas which divided the Western World between the Spaniards and the Portuguese.

Whoever did this graph did a good job but didn't know the past tense of 'split'

Google for the Treaty of Tordesillas and you may come across Laurence Bergreen's book "Over the Edge" which also deals with it - click here.

The book is not (yet) available for online reading at www.archive.org but the audiobook, read by the author himself, is on YouTube:
