It's been a long day at the Bay: car service, lunch at Moruya Bowling Club, doing some photocopying at the local library, an hour-long swim in the warm-water swimming pool, and by way of an early birthday present I picked up a small parcel from the post office containing a 100-pack of my final calling cards.
I hadn't been to the local library in years, but the helpful ladies behind the desk signed me up again as if their jobs depended on me - which in fact they do because reading seems to have gone out of fashion and the library was almost deserted. I was intoxicated by that faint vanilla smell caused by lignin breaking down in wood-based paper, and I promised the nice ladies that they'll have me back as a regular at least once a week.
Oh, and I did find at Vinnies a copy of Ursula Dubosarsky's book "The Word Spy" and another Yuval Noah Harari tome, but I leave that for another blog post. Right now it's time for a cup of tea and a few of Arnott's Spicy Fruit Roll biscuits. They will take me back to the time when I first arrived in this wonderful country sixty years ago tomorrow.
