Last night's discussions on Radio National's Late Night Live drew my attention to geopolitical forecaster George Friedman's new book "The Storm before the Calm".
He predicts further discord and crisis during the 2020s, and believes we were already headed for this particularly challenging period, because of the convergence of two historical cycles in the institutional and socio-economic spheres. Even President Donald Trump cannot lay total claim for his success at winning the Presidency; his win was more a symptom of the end of a 50 year socio-economic cycle – one that spells the end of this kind of presidency. And fianly, he also predicts that the US will return to another cycle of prosperity and power.
Listen to Late Night Live's podcast here and have a peek at the book here. I've just ordered it.
