Yes, we've just signed up!

Bay Pavilions, the new arts and aquatic centre in the Bay, is nearing its completion. Not quite sure when they will be open but we've signed up today to be the first in the pool before someone pees in it. Heres' what I found on Google:

Can you tell if someone pees in the pool? There is currently no such urine indicator dye that exists. Chlorine and other disinfectants are added to a swimming pool to destroy germs. When urine comes into contact with chlorine, it creates chloramines, which is what's giving off the odour. When your eyes burn while swimming, that's another sign of trouble. Cyanogen chloride is a chemical created when someone pees in a pool. It's a toxic chemical that causes your eyes to burn.

Can you get sick if someone pees in the pool? Even in a well-maintained pool, chlorine and other disinfectants can't immediately kill germs. Some of these pathogens still take more time than you think to be neutralized. This means that peeing in pools isn't just gross; it can also make you sick.

Do adults pee in the pool? A test showed that 40% of the adults surveyed admitted to peeing in swimming pools. Not as infants. Not as children, but as full-grown adults. Yes, apparently, in many cases, if you think you are swimming in water that's pee free, urine for a surprise.

Is there a chemical to show pee in a pool? No. There is no chemical which changes colour when someone urinates in a swimming pool. There are dyes which could cloud, change colour, or produce a colour in response to urine, but these chemicals would also be activated by other compounds, producing embarrassing false-positives.

Can you get an infection from peeing in pool? Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are another culprit of swimming pool season. A UTI occurs when bacteria travels up the urethra and travels through the urine into the bladder. The offending bacteria can come from icky pool water, not showering after, or from sitting around in a damp bathing suit.

How much pee is in a pool? It is estimated that there are somewhere between 30 milliliters and 80 ml of pee per person in a pool.

Yuck! I wished I hadn't googled! Is it too late to cancel our membership?
