Just having re-read "They're a Weird Mob" from cover to cover for the first time in many years - it left me feeling just that little bit more patriotic and just that little bit teary - I've decided to start this sunny Sunday in exactly the same way this book finishes:
"There are hundreds of ways we could spend this sunny Sunday afternoon. Or we could just stay at home and do nothing, and perhaps that would be best of all. To rest on the seventh day. To thank God for letting us be here. To thank Him for letting me be an Australian. Sometimes I think that if I am ever fortunate enough to reach Heaven, I will know I am there when I hear Him say, 'Howyergoin'mate orright?'"
Join me in reading this 'fair-dinkum' Australian classic - even though, sadly, hardly anyone under the age of forty says 'fair dinkum' anymore - so that next time I can ask you, "Howsthebookgoin' mate orright?"
P.S. If you want to be a lazy bastard, you can listen to the audiobook:
