Thanks for the memories!

On the beach facing the ocean

I discovered these old and long-forgotten black-and-white photos from June 1976 of a trip to Yule Island with Brian Herde. I put them on the island's facebook page. Some people may recognise themselves or others from fifty years ago and get a kick out of it.

One of the sons belonging to the expat fisherman. Yours truly on the right

Yours truly waiting for his lift back to the mainland

Our mode of transport

Returning by lakatoi to the mainland

At the fisherman's family's house; Brian is on the right

Brian Herde on the far right with his back to the camera

We had put up our little tent inside the disused tennis court. Next morning we found ourselves surrounded by a bunch of youngsters who belonged to an expat fisherman's family living up on the hill

When I first published these photos in 2021, I wrote, "Brian Herde would be ninety years old this year", and posed the question, "Where is he now?" That mystery was solved when I recently discovered that he had passed away in Townsville Hospital in 1999, a mere sixty-eight years old.

You've got there first again, you old bastard! Thanks for the memories!
