It must've been a very slow news day

It must've been a very slow news day when the Kieta correspondent of the Port Moresby Post-Courier filed this photo with his head office in early January 1974. And yet, he didn't even get all his facts right:

Yes, we were having a Fireball competition on Kieta Harbour, and, yes, this boat is DANDO, owned and skippered by S. Searle (I've forgotten his first name) who was a work-mate of mine at PDF Holdings in Arawa, but "the daring young man" was yours truly, crouched awkwardly (and still in pain from appendectomy surgery only a week earlier) on the trapeze.

That crouching - and later leaning-far-out on the trapeze - caused the surgery scar to s-t-r-e-t-ch and gave me a permanent reminder of just how stupid I was fifty years ago. Daring young man? Stupid more like it.
