This comment by Justice Lee in the Bruce Lehrmann/Brittany Higgins defamation case will go down in the annals of legal judgements as a pithy warning to litigants intent on "going for broke" when they've just had a very lucky escape.
As with Ben Roberts-Smith, and going right back to Oscar Wilde, the claimants came to rue the day that they commenced defamation proceedings — and that's just for their reputation's sake, let alone for the financial and the impact on their life and those around them.
Of course, the lawyers are laughing all the way to the bank, as will those who are going to preside over the ensuing financial bankruptcies.
They should've listened to Anthony Hopkins - or watched some of his films (my favourites are "84 Charing Cross Road" and "Shadowlands").
